Abstract
Objective: This study aimed to examine through clinical tests the difference in the effects of using mouth gaggle solution containing oriental medicine extracts, which can minimize the side effect of mineral salts and chemicals being used as saliva replacement, on the mouth dryness and oral malodor alleviation compared to commonly used mouth rinse.

Methods: Sixty adult volunteers were collected and divided with 2 groups as the experimental and the control groups. Mouth rinse with mineral salts & herbal extracts was supplied to experimental group and Garlin was supplied to control group, and let them use for 2 weeks. The data were collected and compared each other. As for oral malodor and oral humidity measurement, Mucus¨Þ (Life Co., Japan) and B&B checker (Saehan Dental Co., Korea) were used.

Results: Analysis of covariance conducted a week and 2 weeks after using the gargle showed a significant oral malodor alleviation effect in experimental group (p£¼0.001). Also 1 week and 2 weeks after using the gargle showed a significant increase in oral humidity in experimental group (p£¼0.001).

Conclusion: Such results have shown the long-term effects of the gargle containing mineral salts and oriental medicine ex-tracts in reducing oral malodor and alleviating mouth dryness. It is recommended for mouth dryness or oral malodor patients.
